Three years in the making

April 20, 2012

As Mick Jagger once wrote, ‘You can’t always get what you want.’
And these lyrics rang true for Kerry and Nick. They bought this apple tree three years ago thinking it would bare cider apples, when in fact, it never will. So, while they won’t be doing any drinking, they’re enjoying the delicious, sweet white flesh of this ‘surprise’ variety. Kerry has since discovered that buying plants that are incorrectly labelled is quite common. One of The Menagerie’s neighbours, The Cackleberry Boys, thought they’d bought a seedling cucumber when, in fact it was a zucchini plant which were already growing in abundance. If there are any apple growers out there who can tell The Menagarie the name of this wheelbarrow-red variety, we’d love to hear from you.
